The success of Roma, a film by Alfonso Cuarón starring Yatitza Aparicio, has gone around the world, so much so that it is nominated for “Best Film”, “Best Director”, “Best Original Screenplay”, among other nominations.
However, it not only stands out for this, but also for the effect it has had on society, since since Yalitza was recognized for her role, people from the indigenous community seem to have become empowered and made themselves visible among the community.
This situation is visible in Nayarit, since at the France Mobile Number List Fair of this state, women of Huichol and Cora indigenous origin decided to compete for the title of Queen of the Nayarit Fair to be able to represent their communities, thereby making history.
One of them is Yukaima, of Wixarika origin. She is a representative of the Guadalupe Ocotán community. She is 18 years old and is a student of Physical Culture and Sports.
There is also Diana, an 18-year-old girl who is competing on behalf of the municipality of Nayar.
Their participation represents the fight for the representation of their race in the media and in the most important events in the different regions of the country.
This act was recognized by the local state representative, Julieta Mejía, on her Twitter account.
Both young women will compete on March 7 to be crowned and have the opportunity to represent their communities in the tourism promotion of the state of Nayarit.
